Understanding Dental Insurance: What You Need to Know

Dental insurance can be a valuable resource, but it’s also one of the most commonly misunderstood aspects of dental care. To help you navigate your coverage with confidence, here’s a clear explanation to address some common misconceptions.

Dental insurance is a contract between you (via your employer) and the insurance company. It does not involve the dental care provider. Coverage levels vary widely based on the agreement your employer has with the insurance company and are not related to the fees charged or the quality of care provided.

You may come across the term “UCR” (Usual, Customary, and Reasonable fees). This term represents a limit set by the insurance company on reimbursement amounts. It’s important to note that UCR limits are determined by your insurance plan and don’t reflect the actual cost of care or the provider’s fees.

At our office, we strive to make the insurance process as smooth as possible. While not required, we’re happy to submit claims on your behalf at no additional charge. We also provide a detailed estimate for each procedure, outlining the anticipated insurance reimbursement and your portion of the cost.

Please note:

  • Your portion is due at the time of treatment unless prior arrangements are made.
  • If insurance reimbursement exceeds the estimate, we will promptly issue a refund. Conversely, if reimbursement is lower than expected, the remaining balance will be due.
  • If your insurance company has not processed payment within 90 days, the remaining balance will be the patient’s responsibility.

Our goal is to support you in maximizing your insurance benefits while ensuring you receive the highest standard of care. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask!

Getting Started with Healthcare Financing

Often the main obstacle to achieving your dazzling, healthy smile is financing. So we accept multiple financing options with no prepayment penalties, instant approval, and affordable repayment options that fit your budget. Choose CareCredit, Proceed Finance or Cherry Finance, for the plan features that best serve you. These methods may be used to spread your costs out over a period of months or years upon approval.
